Sufia Foundation is working with the director to reopen the orphanage so the boys can return. The facility is already furnished, and available for the boys to use as housing, however the director had to make the difficult decision to close the doors because he was not able to provide meals. We fear that the relatives they are staying with now are also unable to provide adequate meals for them, given the humanitarian crisis. Our initial goal is to raise enough funds to provide meals so the boys can return. Long term, we aim to provide more than meals; we want to provide educational opportunities and vocational training so these boys can have a brighter future and help their community. Baghdis is a province bordering Turkmenistan in the northwest of Afghanistan. It is considered one of the most underdeveloped areas in Afghanistan with the highest poverty rate amongst provinces. This is an area that has been largely forgotten in the scope of development and humanitarian work.
