Sufia Foundation and Enabled Children Initiative are working together to provide holistic care to a 16-year-old girl named Baheshta* who is suffering from an intellectual and sensory disability which requires urgent medical treatment.
She lives with her family in an enclosed compound full of waste; their dwelling therein is built from haphazard materials, refuse, and mud. Her father is struggling to support her, her mother, and seven siblings, depending solely on harvesting sorghum and collecting garbage for income. Their current living conditions are extremely hazardous. Baheshta’s family reported that she can be violent towards others and has to be chained up for long periods of time during the day. Occasionally, they resort to sedating her.
When ECI visited the family on March 22, they found Baheshta to be calm but appeared severely neglected. Unfortunately, given the country’s lack of services for the poor and disabled, this is common for families struggling with similar issues.
By supporting Enabled Children Initiative as the implementer of holistic care, Sufia Foundation can ensure that the family receives proper education and resources to care for her and ensure she receives appropriate treatment and therapy. Help support Baheshta by making a donation today. All proceeds will be provided to ECI and used solely to support Baheshta and her family.

Phase 1 of this initiative was focused on providing Baheshta with medical care and her family with essential needs such as food items, bedding and hygienic goods. This phase of the project was funded and completed successfully.
In Phase 2, the focus continued to be on Baheshta's medical care which included a conclusive diagnosis of her condition, medication, and disability awareness training for the family. Phase 2 also focused on providing the family with income generation support which will be a great help to the family and cover the cost of Baheshta's care.
It will take about three to four months for the income generation from the chicken coop to stabilize. In the interim, please donate to help cover the cost of Baheshta's medication and the chicken coop (vaccines, feed, supplies).
